About JN Memorial HS School
Situated in the middle of Agia bazaar, Jogendra Nath Memorial Higher Secondary School is one of the oldest high schools in the district of undivided Goalpara. In the year 1948, when the rest of India was struggling with the post-independence challenges, a few visionaries of the Agia region led by then district Congress president Late Khagendranath Nath came together to lit the candle of higher education by establishing a high school. It was unanimously decided to name the school in the loving memory of Late Jogendranath Nath, the relentless freedom fighter and votary of education who was informally known as ‘bondhu’ to the local populous. The first classes of the school started from 18 March 1948 in the premise of the existing Agia Middle English (ME) school. Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi, the first premier of Assam laid the foundation stone of the high school on 6 February 1949. In 1985, the school was upgraded to a higher secondary school.

I feel fortunate enough to say that during my tenure, our school is going to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee year from 18th March 2022 to 17th March 2023. The school named after the great patriot, Jogendra Nath Nath for the commemoration of his contributions to our nation and in particular, to the undivided Goalpara District, has attained the pinnacle of success in respect of building human resources. The school has earned name and fame in both scholastic as well as non-scholastic areas since its inception. It becomes possible not only for the initiative of the teachers but also for the co-operation of the guardians and the education-loving people of the entire area. The exemplary role of the previous scholarly principals of the school is also notable.
On the auspicious moment of the inaugural ceremony of the Platinum Jubilee of the alma mater to be solemnized on 18th March 2022, I can’t but pay tribute to the stakeholders of the schools who ventured to establish the school in this backward area to lit the candle of knowledge. I pay my tribute to Late Khagendra Nath Nath, the founder president of the school and first post-independent MLA of Goalpara LAC, Late Dwijendra Lal Singha, the founder secretary of the school, and the other pioneers who are no more in the world.
At this crucial moment, I deeply remember Gopinath Bardoloi, the then premier of Assam who laid the foundation of the school building on 6th February 1949. Since then the school has been observing the date as Foundation Day every year.
I take the privilege to thank the members of the ‘Tathya and Dastabej’ (Information & Document) Committee who have left no stone unturned to collect all the information and documents of the school to preserve them for future generations by opening a website which is scheduled to be formally inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner of Goalpara District on 18th March 2022.
The Platinum Jubilee Year Celebration Committee is all set to celebrate the jubilee by chalking out year-long various colorful programmes in collaboration with the ex-students, present students, retired and present teachers, the school management and development committee, and the well-wishers of the school.
Lastly, I like to promise at this great moment that I will, in no case, deviate from fulfilling the vision and the missions of the school to establish it as one of the best schools in the state of Assam.
