Extra curricular Activities

In extra-curricular activities JN Memorial HS school students are not lagging behind. In almost every year, students participate in various district as well as state level competition and come back triumphed. In this context, it is worthwhile to mention that two students have recently secured first position in Quiz competition and second position in Science exhibition, conducted by RMSA in the month of June 2012. The school authority regularly hosts various competitions such as Arts & drawing competition, Quiz, debate or essay writing competition within school campus to enhance the creativity and general awareness of the students. Many students of the school are placed into Government jobs via Sports Quota after successfully competing in state and national level competitions.

Noteworthy performance in the field of athletics by school students:

  1. Tilok Roy won Silver Medal in the year 1985 in 200 metre race during National Athletics Meet
  2. Basanti Rabha won Gold Medal in 400, 800 and 1500 metre race in the year 2006 during Assam State Athletics Meet
  3. Seena Rabha won Silver Medal in Shotput Throw event in the year during Assam State Athletics Meet

School Magazine

A school magazine represents the face of the students of that institution. KUHIPAT plays the same role for the students of JN Memorial HS School. Earlier the magazine was published bi-annually, but now this is published every year. It gives ample scope to stimulate the creative talents of the students. Many of the old issues of the school magazine received wide appreciations from different corners of the society. The magazine contains three sections- Assamese, English and Hindi.

Moreover, wall magazine is also published quarterly for the encouragement of individual talent.

Union Body Election

A union body of school students is formed every year as per democratic process. The election is held for various posts such as general secretary, asst general secretary, debate secretary, cultural secretary, sports secretary, magazine secretary and so on. Students from both high school section and higher seconday section participate in the election process. The office bearers of the student union body are elected as per existing guidelines. They are responsible to their duties and are loyal to the teachers.

School Week

‘School Week’ or ‘Annual Sports’ is the 7-days of fun and excitement that every school students wait for. School week is being conducted annually where the students can show their performance not only in games, debates or athletics but also in other cultural events such as singing, dancing and acting. The week used to get started with the march-past parades by the students of different classes. The school week also includes some competitions among the teachers to make it an all-inclusive affair. The week completes with a valedictory ceremony in the presence of eminent personalities where all the award winners are given away with recognitions. The school week also witness lots of cultural programs performed by the students.

Scouts & Guides

Scouts and Guides centres are present in different Government schools of Assam. JN Memorial HS School is soon opening such a centre under the leadership of the principal and Physical Trainer of the institute. One teacher from the school has already been trained in Guwahati for the same. The school authority is also planning to have NCC (National Cadet Corp) soon in the office.

Celebration of Annual Events

The school students celebrate a number of annual events with much pomp and grandeur. SARASWATI PUJA is the prominent among such events. Students also celebrate the SANKARDEVA TITHI with many affairs. The freshmen’s social and Teachers’ Day are two most important annual events. The celebration of Republic Day, Independence Day, Environment Day, School Foundation Day are also noteworthy. The distribution of Admit cards among the out-going students of class X and XII is another landmark occasion for the students in every calendar year.

Alumni Relationship

Alumni are having an important role to play in the development of the school. JN Memorial HS School has already completed glorious sixty years of its establishment. The concept of alumni relationship committee first came while celebrating the Golden jubilee of the school in the year 1999. There was formation of an alumni relationship committee comprising of six members. The committee is not much active now and the school authority is thinking of establishing a separate cell to maintain a collaborative relation with all its alumni. There has also been proposal to held alumni meet on periodic basis.
